Fun Things to do around Cocoa Beach on a budget
February 15, 2008 on 11:30 pm | In Florida, Travel | No CommentsFun things to do around Cocoa Beach on a budget—well we started the morning with the simple plan of finding a good place to shower on the road without actually having to get a motel room (which would pretty much destroy our budget in an expensive area like this). Pro-Health & Fitness Center (located on 255 Borman Dr, Merritt Island, FL 32952) was just the ticket.
I took a quick tour around the facility while Chris waited out in our customized Honda Odyssey travel van. The shower alone would have been worth the $5 day pass fee, but it was great to find out all that other stuff was there too.
We wound up getting a pretty good work out for our money-used some of the machines, walked and ran around an upper level track, played basketball, and even used the pool and steam room where I talked to a lady about some of the good stuff to do in the area since we’re traveling the country and looking for fun things to do on a budget She said not to miss the Cocoa Beach nightlife, and I’m glad we took her advice.
We first stopped at a place called Harvey’s Grove on 38010 N Atlantic Ave, Cocoa Beach, FL 32931, where I got my dose of fresh squeezed orange juice for the day, then we left the van parked by the beach and walked around Cocoa Beach for a while.
We were enticed into Heidi’s Jazz club where live performers can be heard Tuesday through Sunday. Heidi’s Jazz Club is located on 7 N. Orlando Ave, Cocoa Beach, Florida. We were there a couple hours before the main performance but ya could’ve fooled me-it was absolutely amazing to watch those seniors getting up from their tables and performing a song or two as we slowly slipped our beverages. It was all so casual too-like karaoke for seniors with talent.
One woman was a former Las Vegas showgirl, who joked seriously that she was also a plumber for 15 years, “you laugh, you don’t believe me, but it put my kids through college.” She was funny and did a little tap dance routine complaining in an energetic way about how tired she was.
Afterward, we kept the night alive and walked to Coconuts on the Beach lounge for dinner (chicken scampi).
Wanting to get out of Brevard county where we’d had so much difficulty parking, I got back on highway 1 heading North. I pulled into a large church parking lot and we had a peaceful night.
