Theater of The Sea, Islamorada, Florida Keys
February 1, 2008 on 10:04 pm | In Florida, Travel | No CommentsWe were treated to another priceless ocean sunrise this morning. We had spent the night at a secluded pull off area, kind of in the ditch, right before a bridge. In the morning, fisherman started showing up, so it wasn’t quite our own private paradise anymore and we took our leave.
Our first stop was a rest area pullout. A long boardwalk trailed along the ocean shore, which we followed. There were countless beached jellyfish.
We stopped in Islamorada, Florida Keys, mysteriously drawn to the Theater Of The Sea. It was a great way to spend a sunny afternoon. We took a short floorless boat ride where a dolphin swam right up next to us-the closest I’ve ever been to a dolphin. The sea lion show was great-and we learned about the training techniques they use there. Seeing the parrot show was also pretty entertaining. I didn’t know a parrot was as intelligent as a two or three year old child. It was fun watching them play with puzzles and other toddler toys. The girl that trained them was great, she looked like she was really having fun and making us all laugh.
Next, we found a beach and waded in about waist deep, but we sort of wussed out because we saw all these things that looked like they may have been jellyfish-not surprising considering all the beached ones we ha seen earlier. The water was too cold to be that inviting anyway. Instead, we laid out on the beach a while, then used an outdoor shower to rinse off.
