Lake Mead
December 11, 2005 on 11:00 pm | In Nevada, Travel | No CommentsWe took the scenic drive from Vegas back to Phoenix. There was a $5 toll, but it was a pretty drive and we stopped a couple times along the way and took nice pictures. We got back at 9 P.M. and tomorrow it’s back to work bright and early.
Las Vegas and the Star Trek Experience
December 10, 2005 on 7:25 pm | In Nevada, Travel | No CommentsMy birthday! I survived my first quarter century and now I’m moving on. Friday, after work, I decided to drive to Las Vegas for the weekend. Chris was game. It took a while to get out of the Phoenix area due to traffic and detours, but the rest of the trip was a smooth drive. We got there maybe 11 P.M. and looked around at different hotels, finally getting one, but not til 2 A.M. We Stayed at Boulder Station.
The next morning, we got a decently early start. We had breakfast at Sam’s Casino Buffet-which was superb. Then we drove to the Hilton and went to the Star Trek The Experience. The Borg Exhibit was awesome. It was in 3D and our chairs moved and poked us-and blew air/mist at us to enhance the experience of being assimilated by the Borg. It was great.
We shared an Asian sauce boneless buffalo wing appetizer at the Quarks cafe below. That was wonderful-sweet and spicy with a cucumber stuffing in the center. Then we got on the monorail. It was just starting to get dark. I reserved a non-smoking upgraded room on the 10th floor of the Tropicana for $109 + tax. It was a very nice room, but we didn’t spend much time in it. It was conveniently located on the strip. We hopped back on the monorail and went back to get my car at the Hilton & repark it.
Then we walked around the strip-where we spent much of our time lost in these casino-mall-mini worlds..it’s like having a whole bunch of malls side by side-one would think one would be enough to spend a whole day at-but there are so many others and so much to see-you just can’t do it all-and they’re so monstrously huge-you might spend an hour walking around just trying to find something.
A guy on the street sold me V.I.P passes to 2 clubs for $5. Should’ve just called them “sucker” passes. We were offered more VIP passes to one of the clubs for free upon entering the casino. But when we finally found it-Club Pure-there was still an enormous line. Chris asked a guy in line if he had a V.I.P pass and he didn’t, but the guy ahead of him said he had one, but you have to wait in line just the same. I didn’t want to wait in a line with 300 plus people just to maybe get in a club, so we went looking for the other club, which also had a long line. It was after midnight, we threw our hands up, metaphorically speaking, had a couple jello shots and went back to our room.
